Well time has finally came to reduce my beloved '99 to a pile of parts and see what rises out of the pile. Build plans are SD 60/Sterling 10.5, 5.13 gears, True-Trac F, Grizzly Locker rear.

Front B2 springs, James Duff offset coil buckets, SD steering box, double cardan 1310 driveshaft and stock modified SD radius arms with Heims.

Rear Pro-Comp 5" lift Chevy 63" springs, 3" extended wheelbase,

Wheels and tires will be 39X12.50R17 Kanati Mud Hogs on stock SD wheels

Goals are mildly capable mall crawler. Used for exploring and general shenanigans.

In!! Only criticisms. I’d ditch the front limited slip and cut the front half of the frame off after the motor mounts to get it a little lower.
Well, the frame thing was my call due to budget constraints(I'm having this farmed out to a local builder) As far as the limited slip there are multiple reasons 1) After 24yrs in Humvees I'm pretty dang confident in a helical type differential :homer:, 2) It helps me maintain my mall-crawler status :grinpimp: and 3) it gives the Jeep fags a fighting chance of keeping up with me :flipoff2:

It's in and paid for so we'll see how it goes, but thanks for chiming in! Your build thread gave me many points to ponder!

A little bit further along now, got the fenders cutout to stretch rear wheelbase. I'm dreading putting those back together. Also I had to raise the radiator to clear my steering box so now I have to install an electric fan. Anyone have any suggestions? Radiator shop told me 16" and minimum of 1500cfm so that's what I'm shopping for now.

It's pricey but a simple solution vs. the bullshit we home brewed on my brother's Ranger when we tried to get 70's buckets to work. I'd have loved to just bolt on some Duff components and then stretched the arms ourselves for cost cutting.

Digging the tall but skinny tire look. Way to go IMO. :smokin:

Any plans down the road for powertrain changes or just keeping it stock to keep it easy? 4.0 right?

The Duff spring mounts were an amazing time saver. They will be welded in since I have no bolt holes anyway (Torsion bar front previously) but they were almost perfect spacing for the SD axle. Another 1/2"-3/4" and they would have been dead on. As it is I have a tiny bit of spring lean but I'm not worried about it. I'll grab some pictures tomorrow. For no more money than they cost it was well worth it to keep from trying to figure it out on my own.

The skinny tires and stock wheels worked out perfect. I'm probably only a foot wider than the 33X10.50's I was running.

Powertrain is up in the air, I love my 4.0 and if it works good it will stay a while. 5.0 or 5.8 is the big question. I have a 5.8/E4OD(?)/and Transfer case out of a 95 F250 that can be had for nearly free so if a transplant happens that will more than likely be the source.

Then again a 3.5 Ecoboost swap would be sweet but pricey! For that level of money I'd also look into the new Cummins 2.8. Decisions, decisions, decisions......

best fan for the price for sure, im running a taurus one on my bbf and does just fine even if my rad is on the small side

I'm headed to the JY Wed to look for a Taurus fan, if it will hold up to the abuse you put out it will be perfect for me!

A Taurus fan will put most any aftermarket fan to shame and they are pretty much dirt cheap. They supposedly move about 4000 CFM. The one in my father's old early Bronco would hold a sheet of paper to the grill when it was running on high.

I know you said you already bough the limited slip so you are going to run it, but I think you'll be regretting it pretty quick if you run in the rocks.

Radius arms are done and powder-coated these things look awesome and will serve my needs great! Factory arms with 2"x.250 wall and gusseting.

I used a tbird fan to cool my 460. I got it brand new for just a little more than the jy wanted for a mark 8 fan. Mark 8 fans are nice too. Either fan pulls a lot amps at start up. I got an 80 amp constant duty solenoid and it works great. Sweet build man!

Taurus, T Bird, Mark 8, Volvo, and F body or Corvette fans are most people's go to. I have lately found that the F body fan is what fits my BBF F-250 radiator and the 31" Griffin for my Foxbody the best. They flow some ridiculous numbers, but I like the packaging of the Taurus fans the best. Might not fit the best but it looks the nicest.

They are cheap new on Ebay so don't waste your time junkyarding one. Most of those cars seem to be long gone now anyway.

Arms look good. What's the measurement from the joint to the center of the axle?

Thanks!! Yup, JY hunting was a complete bust! Haunting Evilbay now!

Interested in how this pans out. I want to do something similar to my 98!

Dooooo eeeeeetttt!!!! The Duff coil mounts made it super simple, Steering will be all stock SD (Shortened drag link), the track bar is the last piece to go into place and he's supposed to work it in tomorrow(VERY tight quarters). My truck has a 3" body lift which made raising the radiator easy to clear the steering box. That is what made the switch to an electric fan necessary. If you're seriously wanting to look into it shoot me an email address and I'll send you all the details I can on parts ordered/what NOT to order.

35" From centerline to eye of heim. That let the mounting bracket land nearly perfect on the former Torsion bar mount. Still should be sufficiently flexy for crawling the largest of speed bumps at the mall! :grinpimp:
