I am finally getting the shop build started and it was recomended i document the process here. THANKS Rock the dog
The first pic is an old one from before the tuff shed was placed. Of course now we had to move the shed to make room for the shop. The second is after the shed was moved. I have to widen the pad to make room for a 30' wide building.

I thought I was crazy when I had my counter tops templated and installed before I finished my cabinets, you had a building delivered before you got your permit!

Did you move all that earth with that Kubuta? That’s a lot of seat time, but moving dirt is fun for awhile.
Super stoked but i can't get too excited until the permits issued
View from my deck....can you picture it?
From the picture it looks like CA has started to fall off into the ocean.:flipoff2:
Hopefully next year I will start on my shop build, threads like yours keep me motivated.

yes, did the grading with my little kubota. After an entirely too long of wait, I have the permit and the footings are now dug. should have the forms up and rebar in mid week. first inspection done by end of week and concrete the first of next week.

update

almost done with the footing forms. got the drain today. still need to cut it down to the correct height for the floor. put in the grounding wire. 20 feet of #4 copper in the trench and 5 feet poking up to run into the bottom of the panel. got the gravel delivered today.
hoping for the inspection on Friday and poor concrete on Monday or Tuesday.

Can't wait to see it. (I can't picture from your deck)

I'm glad I don't live in CA. It looks like you're out in the country. Here, you call it a farm building and put it up. (No permits)
If he is dealing with El Dorado county and not Placerville city, permits are even worse. I'm still pissed with mine that went sideways.

Nice looking start of a shop. I wish I was as lucky.

yah, we have farm buildings here too but they still require permits. they are far less scrutinizing of the farm or ag buiding permits but if you want electricity you have to call it a shop or garage and they have more they want to inspect....

Thanks Lil'John
What happened to your shop build? I remember looking at your post a while back. I also wanted to pick your brain about an offset 60 for my FJ40. The plan is to cut down a GM front to fit the stock spring width and it would be cool if I could find a rear to work with little or no mods. I for sure want the diff offset so I can keep my drivetrain.

I'll PM over permit :homer:

On the axles, I used a Dodge front and cut ~7" off the driverside.

On the rear, I used a 2000 Ford E350 van full float axle that I cut ~7" off on passenger side. This has factory disk brakes and ebrake.

The 7" off puts the axles at 60" WMS or about 5" over factory FJ40/FJ55.

On my FJ55, I want to say my 35" x12.5" tires stick maybe 2" outside the fenders.
The latest....all but the man door framed. should start sheeting the roof/walls tomorrow.

after a holiday week delay, the North wall went up

I would have thought the roof goes on first. Does the order matter?
If I remember correctly they did my walls first too. I don't think the order really matters. Probably makes it easier to get the insulation under the wall panels without the roof on. Then they just roll the insulation over the roof and panel over it.
