well guys im thinking about moving my drivtrain into a jeep and i have a few questions, i have a chevy dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear,400 smallblock, turbo 350, np 203, well here goes will a yj or a cj-7 with a springover (stocksprings) and a 3 inch body lift clear 40 inch bogs with hella cutting, also will i have to cut and rotate the knuckles on the front 60 or will they work with a shim on the jeep, and will the np203/turbo 350 combo work or is it to long, and i want to keep the axles full width, will i have any problems with the front d shaft hitting the oilpan or trannypan, i know i will have to outoard the front sprigs right?, and also a 400 will fit in a jeep right? without firewall mods, i understand i will need to run an electric fan, will someone please answer all my questions im new to this jeep think so bear with me, im just trying to see if it is a feasible swap thanks in advance adam <IMG SRC="smilies/vader1.gif" border="0">

All that is no problem to fit. Yes you will be outboarding the springs in the front but the rears you might just weld on new spring pads so they are right where you need them. The 400 will fit in a 7 with no problem since they came stock with 304's in some. Make sure you move the front axle forward about 5" or so, so the front tires don't come back and hit the body. In the rear move the rear back about the same and you will need some TJ fender flairs to finish off the sheetmetal you cut. I run phodes on my rig with 60's but I cut them down to 60" wide. Here is a shot to help out.

Yes it will fit under a YJ. You can slot the hole in the perches in the front and the springs will bolt up. You will have to Move the axle perches in on the back axle.
I would also recommened that you use a shorter T-case (i.e. dana 300) the 203 won't leave you with very much driveline. But Iv'e seen it done
No you shouldn't have to turn the knuckles.
You might have some problems with the front drive line but I made a 1 1/4" solid chromoly front shaft and it works better than ever.
here is a pic of mine when I had boggers on it yours should look similar.
We'll sheet all my pics are too big and i don't know how to make them smaller.
Check out the twinn buttes pics on www.yellowtj.com or if you want to see it with 1/4 elipticle and 38.5 SX's then go to my site at www.westtexasoffroad.com

I'm running an 8 lug 44 right now and that's what I did and it works great. The D60 should work fine too. you might have to do some grinding on the housing to move it over but it should work.

With the 60 being full width there shouldn't be a problem with the driveline hitting the pan on the th350. If it was cut down to fit in a 27.5" wide frame it would be but not a YJ frame on an out board frame. I second LakeRat on getting rid of the 203 and go for a 300 or a 205.

you don't need to outboard your springs with a yj frame. i say get a yj. cut the rear of the back fenders out and slide the rear back so you get a 100-105" wheelbase and keep the 203 gear box and get the doubler kit to add a 205 behind it. you get a super strong case with almost 4to1 low range. you'll have to slide the rear back likew i said to fit it though. just my op.

Just a couple weeks ago my buddy bought a 91 YJ with a roached tranny for $1000. Everything else was fine. If you found a deal like that, you could probably part out the rig, and end up about even if you find the right people to sell the parts to.

I did this conversion to my 89 YJ, the front end went straight in..with a shackle reversal you might need to play with shackle lengths to get caster where you need it but it wasnt a big deal! The rear perches will need to be relocated. I run a 454/TH350/300 and if I tried to use a front cv it would hit the trans pan even with soa. I use a std d-shaft and havn't had any problems yet.I run full width axles with my own cross over steering and will soon fab my own tie rods above the springs. You will definitly need to something about spring wrap. I'm gonna fab something on the line of SAMS OFF RD unit. In the front I use F350 upper shock mounts and I run Rancho 9012's all around. It flexes real well but with 37 Boggers I have to do some fender trimming. I already went Flatty in front and will probably go TJ in the rear.
Good luck

Not bad if it is a good tub. I would go with the master cylinder that goes with those axles if it were me.

if it is staight i'd say it's not too bad. i'd rather find one like was posted earlier because you would have parts to sell off of it. but if it isw in perfect condition it's not bad. what brakes do you run on your 14bolt? i run a 14bolt and havn't swapped to disc's yet and my stock jeep master cylinder wasn't enough so i grabbed a chevy hydro-boost and put it in. i had to turn the mounting plate for the booster upside down and cut the plunger way down but it's in. once i get my factory service manual for this 99 vortec (they sent the wrong one last time) i'll get to try it out. glad to hear you are planning on going with te 203/2054 doubler. my jeep is lengthend to a 100" wheelbase and i don't have room for it or i'd be doing the same. this 4L80E is just too long so i'm sticking with the d300 for now.good luck
