I'm looking through junkyards specifically for a limited slip carrier from a cherokee.

And as I've understood it there is a "carrier break" on rear axles.

And I need the carrier to fit a set of ford FRONT AXLE D35 3.73 gears.

So tell me, what code am I looking for?
Though for general principle I'd like to know what all the cherokee axle codes mean...

Now for another Q?...
Any truth to the rumor that there was a batch of Cherokees made in the mid '80s with factory Gleeson-Torsen worm gear limited slips?

Anyone help me out here?

Not sure about the code but the only XJ's that came with that low of a gear stock are either the 2.5 4cyl axles or the 2.8 V6 axles.

Well, I'm not exactly up on the "jeep speak"
So is "XJ" jeep speak for Cherokee?

And yes, I already knew I was probably going to be looking for a 2.5 cherokee.

BTW, is there any demand for the "accessory" gas tank skid plates for the Chero's?

Are those ford front 35s reverse cut or not? That will make a big difference... as will the crush sleeve or not?

And XJ is the small Cherokee. The one replaced by the *cough*Liberty*cough*

yes, XJ is the downsized Cherokee. Remember, the 2.8 XJ's could also come with 3.73's already installed (mine came with them stock...in fact, I have them if you're interested! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> ) There is somewhat of a demand for a gas tank skid...depends on the price though.

Ok so XJ equals Cherokee (as opposed to "grand cherokee).

As for the gears themselves I don't care.
I'm looking for a carrier ONLY, I could care less about the gears themselves, unless they are 4.10's, because those are saleable.

And no the ford FRONT D35's are not reverse cut, because the diff is "inverted" into the "high pinion" position.

What I'd REALLY like to find is one of those Torsen worm gear limited slips, but that's like finding last weeks winning lottery ticket.

But a used True-trac would be just as nice.

Incase you didn't already figuire it out I'm a ford guy, but not above pirating parts from Jeeps if they will serve my purpose.
