I am running a carbed Chevy 350 and a fuel cell in the back of my flatfender. I need recomendations on what electric fuel pump and fuel filter to get. I do not have alot of space to work with so the less amount of room they take up the better.

Fuel filter:
Looking for something relatively cheap but will still do a good job. Are there any good filters that a 3/8" or 1/2" (-8AN from fuel cell) rubber hose will slip over from autozone? Also open to running a filter with AN fittings. It needs to be -8AN inlet so I dont have to have alot of adapters.

Electric fuel pump:
I have thought about using a Holley red pump but I am not sure if it is the best for the money. Any input about the Holley pump? Are there any external pumps from a vehicle application that will work well and provide plenty of fuel? It would need to have fittings to slip a hose over or standard threaded ports. Good thing about having a vehicle application pump would be local parts houses would have them in stock in case it broke on a trail with no Summit Racing nearby :D . Also what about wiring it? I know for the Holley the extra safety switch can be used but what about a vehicle application pump, same deal?
Thanks.

I'd suggest just getting two of those clear aftermarket filters (Mr.Gasket brand) that you can get from any local parts store. The An ones are expensive, I've got 2 an ones in my system and they were $40 a piece. Going the braided line route is very expensive and fun to put together.
In terms of a fuel pump I'm running a Holley Red pump right now, it pulls 7 psi of pressure at idle and drops to around 5 psi at full throttle. I had a Carter street pump before that I swapped out when I thought the pump was acting up (which it was not). I'd look at the Cater pump before the Holley since it is a better bang for the buck, the Carter was also cheaper and it did pull better pressure than the Holley(accorss the board) but I can't complain about the Holley either.

I like using the clear filters too. On the pump, why not use a mechanical one? It will be much more reliable. I guess if you can not get the psi you need try using a F-150 FI pump. I use one with our TBI 305 motor and it works fine. It was also recommended by many when I used the search feature.

It's all over this board
Some sort of factory Ford pump (external) cost around 70 bucks.
Search you will find it

Did a search before posting this and saw that pump mentioned but I got the impression it was for FI and not carbs.

Yeah, that's the E2000 pump and it's way too much for your Carb set up. What's wrong with the std pump on the side of the block? out of room there too?

Well I could probably use it, it just makes it a PITA to get to the motor mount bolt. To remove the engine (which I will need to do 2x before the buildup is finished) either the pump would have to come off or the headders would have to be unbolted neither of which I really want to do. Also by having the electric pump it would pump the system up before trying to start it which I think would be good because the Jeep will be sitting for long periods of time where the fuel could drain down. It should make for easier starts. But I really dont have experience in this area so I could be completly wrong :D

I personally would stay away from the 3 piece clear filters! I had one come loose, and it was the threads worn down from vibration. I found it (luckily) before I had an engine fire! The metal stock replacements are the best to run in my opinion, besides the high dollar aluminum ones.

I never had that problem with mine or the ones that my friends run (as long as you check once in a while to make sure everything is correct, usually before every run). Like I said above from personal experence and pricing look at a Carter Street (pulls 7 psi at idle and around 6 on full throttle) pump, not "Bling Bling" like a Holley with the chrome and the colors but does the same (if not better job) than the Holley Red for less money. I've got 2 of those aluminum filters but again they were pritty expensive and even thought I bought them I'm not totally sure if there were worth it (really had not choice though cuz I'm running braided line for my cell and nothing else would really work.
Again 2 stock fuel filters would work (personally I always run 2 filters one before the pump and one just before the carb just to be safe) along with the Carter pump, the cheapest and easyest setup in my mind.

If you have the room the Fram filter has 3/8 npt you can screw your AN fittings into. It's a replaceable element unit that works fine on the suction side for me ( I run one for each tank ). Metal housing so heat/rocks are not a problem.

I was origionally planning on using the fram filter but figured it was too tall to mount on my frame. If you get a chance could you measure how tall it is? Im going to the parts store tonight so I will look to see if they have one.

Thanks for all the help.

I run a Mallory filter on both my 500hp boat and my whimpy scout motor.

Not cheap, but it will never clog.

The boat has a Carter electric pump and the scout has a Holley red. The Carter pump is far superior to the Holley. It much quieter and cheaper too. Mine is 12 years old and I have never had a problem with it.

Its 6 1/2" Tall to the top of the L bracket that sticks up 1/2" over the top of the filter mount. Unit sticks out about 4" from the mount surface.
