Im replacing the starter on my dads 79 Chevy 3/4 truck but i cant get the truck to start now. The starter works good and cranks over the motor but it wont run. On the old starter there was a big post where 3 wire terminals connect to, and then one small post that has an S on it with one wire going to it. Now the new starter has a the 2 posts but also an additional small one that has an R labeled on it. Am i supposed to cut one of the wires somewhere and put onto that post? Please someone help, im running out of daylight to get it fixed. Thanks much.

I don't know about the different posts, but I can't imagine anything there that would prevent the engine from starting if it is cranking properly. Are you sure you did'nt flood it or need to pump it a couple more times?

The "r" terminal is not used for your application it is for older vehicles with a points dist. If you hooked it up like the old starter you should not have a problem from the starter unless you tried to remove the starter without unhooking the battery and melted one of the fuse links to find out if this happened pull on the wires and if it is melted it will stretch and needs to be replaced.
