Im in the middle of doing my slip yoke eliminator, and while Im not going to be able to do anymore today, because I have to go to work, I need some help here.. many of you have done this.. .but here is where my problem lies. Im trying to take off the speedometer housing on the t case, which is the second "cone" shaped thing on the back of the t case just before you get to seperating the case.. well.. I got it loose, and when I pull on it, the output shaft and internals all seem to want to come off with it. Its like there is something caught, that is causing this to happen.. any ideas?

Sounds like the oil-pump might be hanging up. In any case, I think the whole shebang (mainshaft, chain, and FWD shaft) comes out with the rear half of the case when you split it and pull the cover anyway (as long as you remembered to remove the front drive yoke). Just split the case and pull it out all as one unit. Then you can see what's going on and get it apart once the shaft is out.

Sounds like you missed the snap ring over the bearing. I see a lot of people miss it at first, and it's a different style of ring in that it's not the normal ring with holes, but instead it's more like a washer that's been split at a 45* angle.

Did you rip off the metal slinger that is around the output shaft? After that theres a couple of o-rings and some snap rings. Should come out, watch out for the oil pump it might fall to the floor.

Edit: unless you have a yj, then scratch the metal slinger part.

Yep, I have a yj, so I scrapped the metal slinger part <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">. Well, I got that cone off, with a little "persuasion" No biggie.. here is where my next problem lies.. I went to take out the bolts holding the two t case halves together, and all of them but one, were 15 MM bolts.. no biggie.. but one was a 12 point 10 mm bolt, that just happened to be all boogered, and I cant get the socket on it.. I mean its really boogered.. almost not recognizeable as a bolt anymore.. This is how I got it. I bought the tranny and t case used. I finally manage to get a 10 MM socket on the "bolt", but now I can't get it to budge.. man this thing is fighting me. I guess I'll just have to persuade it again tommorow.

Scott, there are 2 c-clip type rings one on the front of the outputshaft and another one on the other end you will have to remove to get the gears off. those also have to be replaced so dont fawk them up.

If you dont want your old output shaft I will pay for shipping send it to me.
