Ok, ive got a 97 Z71 and im looking to straight axle it here pretty soon. Im just wondering if i can make my dana 44 work, Its out of a 78 bronco. I really want to run a 60, but then again i want to keep my truck 6 lug. so that way i dont have to buy another set of freaking wheels. Any help on how i can make it work or what do i need to look into?

Youll have to stay coil since you cant cut the c-wedges off that axle. its a D44, so id think you could use outers from a Wagoneer axle to convert it to 6-lug, but that point id just use the whole Waggy axle since its narrower than the Ford axle. Unless youre looking to go full width, that is.

Yes you can build a front 6-lug D60, but you need aftermarket parts to do it. Theres a few vendors here that have the parts.

hmm, well i may scratch the idea of the ford 44 then. REally want leaf spings up front. Is a 700r4 tranny and 4l60e tranny the same. Ive got a blazer here and i was just going to used the passanger side drop trans case and the front axle and just flip sides with the drive shaft. Kinda making it look like a factory straight axled truck?!? Thats kinda what im going for. Just want to make a nice streetable truck, im not going to be hard core off roading it.

Then use a HP D44 out of a '77 or earlier F150. The wedges are welded on and very easy to cut off. Then there should be plenty of room to weld on a set of perches. Swap to a set of Waggy knuckles and Chevy spindles/brakes and you're golden.

well ive got a 77 ford that me and my dad are going to put d60s on ad make it a play toy. Its got a hp44 in it right now but its got the reverse cut gears. So i dont really want to mess with that...

Ive also got a blazer like i said i could use the transfer case out of it and just flop sides in my truck. Ill use the 44 out of it and have all chevy stuff under it? any helpful hints on that?

You can buy 6 lug hubs for D60s.

You can also get an F250 leaf sprung D44 and swap 6-lug outers from a chevy or waggy. That would be the easiest option.

The t-case you would need to use to make your junk passenger drop comes in late 80s/early 90s K5s and Suburbans. The computer needs the VSS signal to shift the tranny correctly.

thats what the K5 is... i wanna say its maybe a 90's but cant remember right off hand. What about my rear drive shaft will it work or am i going to have to get a diff one? and the VSS signal is that the one sensor on the back of the trans case?
