My brother wants to get a new/used TJ. He's having a hard time finding one with a D44 in it. Is there any certian model (package) he should be looking for? Or are they pretty much a RANDOM thing? TIA. -----Dan

P.S. (I did a search and found a million 35/44 posts but nothing on this subject)

I know you could get the D44 option on a sport or a sahara, but not on the 4 cyl TJ. A requirement for the D44 was the 30" wheel package so start there. If it didn't have the 30" wheels from the factory, don't bother looking at it. Other than that I don't think there are any other visible signs.

Wrong again

Dana 35 is oval, Dana 44 has straight edges. Dana 35 has a rubber fill plug, Dana 44 has a metal fill plug.

Find one new on the lot with a Dana 44 and compare it to the axle on an SE and you will see the difference.

And, a Dana 44 could be ordered 98 and later in any sport or sahara, but came as part of a package.

and this really is a JU question, but I hate to see WRONG FAWKING INFO on this board. If you don't know then shut the fawk up or at least say I don't know but here's a guess.

Since the original question in this thread was about "models" that had the D44 I replied based upon models. Had it been asked about the size or shape of the D44 then I would have told him about that. I got an idea... and read things before you start talking sh*t.

Certainly not what I said. I said what I *knew* and that was it was an option in 98 and later. If it was also an option in 97 and later, OK, but that I wasn't certain about.

My point was to correct the mis-information from BabyW, and suggest a fast and easy way to learn to ID them.

Oh - babyW don't be a :crybaby:
