I just picked up a 1983 toyota truck, I plan on doing a low budget 4x4 build.
My question is what the hell is the Junction above the rear axle bolted to the frame that the brake line goes into and the arm to the axle...
I figure I better know what it does before I throw it in the trash....

load sensing proportioning valve.
as the truck squats from weight, it increases pressure to the rear brakes.

You can replace it with a regular brake porportioning valve. Or some have left it but cut off the the part going to the axle for the maximum brake pressure to the rear to compensate for the larger tires
