i tore the front axle apart hub to hub, everything checks out, the hubs are fine as is the differential. it did have some water in it from last months jerk off session. the transfer case(s) work also as ive tried turning the driveshaft in gear(duh) and it wont, but rotates fine in nuetral.

this is a geared open diff, and the hubs seemed to be in good working order, clean and lubed...??? wtf??

If your front axle isn't powering the front wheels when you put it in 4WD and you stated you tore the axle apart and everything was fine...the only other thing that would effect that would be the transfer case not engaging in 4WD or your 4WD lever not engaging the transfer case. Easiest way to tell is get it up on all fours and put it in 4WD, give it alittle gas and see if the front driveshaft turns.

The transfercase being able to turn in neutral doesn't mean it's working right or not working right Unless you got chew'd up gears.

May seem simple but do the opposite. Put the t-case in neutral and lock the hubs and try to turn the driveshaft.

Make sure that your hubs are locking in. When I turn the dial on mine I can hear them engage. When you cleaned the hubs did you take them apart, the first time I took mine apart I did not get them back together right and they would not engage? How much lube did you put on the locking part of the hubs, it just takes a little bit you are not supposed to pack them full? What type of lube did you use, I use a white grease, not the stuff you use for the Birfields or wheel bearings.

i don't think the axle likes your man fluid in it! i wouldn't want to work either!

but it sounds like your t-case is all screwed up.
