When the jeep is at idle it reads 0 oil pressure. but as soon as i touch the gas it jumps up to about 20-25. Does this sound like a sensor prob or a pump problem. This just started on my ride home today and i don't want to ride it around if there is a oil pump problem ya know. My jeep is a 86 cj-7 with a chevy 305 in it. Thanks

without another gage to test it against your goint to have to guess. But the cheapest part to replace is the sensor so you might well do that first. Then if your presure is ok don't worry about it but if it ain't your out less than 20 bucks and you know for sure that your f*cked <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0">

My 2.5L YJ has done that before. I replaced the sensor and everything was cool. But if that doesn't work for ya, you are looking at the pump or worse. The worse part would be bearings. Another thought though. Pull the dip stick and smell the oil. If it smells like gas you got gas past your piston head rings. The gas in the oil causes it to become super thin real quick which causes a drop in oil pressure. Good Luck!

I had some problems like that with my 89 YJ. After replacing the sending unit twice, I took it out and plugged it. I got tired of watching my oil pressure go up and down. Everytime I changed my oil I needed to change the sending unit, what a PITA.
