Hey

I inspected and re-packed front wheel bearings last Saturday afternoon and noticed alot of play in the drivers side lower knuckle bearing. I pulled out the 0.040 shim and replaced it w/ a 0.010 shim I had in my tool box. The knuckle has no slop now, but I'm not sure if it's too tight.

What is the right way to check for proper tightness, and what will happen if the knuckle bearing is too tight?

Thanks

Mark

Put a fish scale in the tie rod hole and pull. It should take between 7 and 13 pounds to move it. I run mine right at 13 pounds.

I'd think if it's to tight it would wear the bearings out quicker.
