Have ya'll read about the ox locker? I saw it in some mag and really have'nt heard much more about it since, but what i liked what i read. I'd like to see it in a toy 8". Sounds like a good alternative to an ARB. They said they had made it for the D44 and D35 i think, and were in the process of building one for a d60. Seems to me they would make one for a toy axle if they're makin it for the 35. Anybody heard anything else about it?

The problem with our axles is that we have 3rd's and they have removable diff covers. As you will see in the articles they send a new cover to replace the one on the axle because that is where the shift fork is located. There are ways I am sure that it could work don't get me wrong but for now they have this thing down for removeable diff covers only.

The OX locker uses the diff cover to house the rails for the shift fork, as well as the mount for the cable.

That's why they give you a diff cover that's 5/8" thick. It's machined from a solid billet of steel. It's also why they charge as much as an ARB is worth for it.

Take a look at that diff cover:

is it true a toyota factory electric locker can be converted to switch with a cable like the OX? it looks to me like that would greatly simplify the install of a salvage yard toy locker (assuming the housing mod is not too overwhelming for a person.)

I have heard that, ahem, Downey is making a kit to convert the E locker to cable. The old factory lockers for the FJ40 were cable actuated.

Maybe I'll look into doing this. Some of the older Audi vehicles had cable actuated diff locks...

I could be making things up, but I believe the toy axle will cost as much as an ARB. Plus the cost of the cable actuator. Unless you don't like ARB, you might just consider them again.
