Hey guys,

Is there a passenger drop t-case that will bolt to a NP435 without a custom adaptor? If you're curious, this is for a budget NP435 swap into a Jeep.

Zeke
Look at a Dodge (not sure what year), I don't know how long the set up is but that's your best bet.

no sh*t? a 205 that was bolted to a 420 or 465 will go to at 435 with no problems? Man I wish I knew that about a year ago. Would have saved me the work of building my own adapter.
You need the Ford adapter for the 205, either a 435, ot T18(to hang on the tranny), then the chevy 205

Dodge FOR SURE used the NP435, and a few sourses state that Chev. used the NP435 as well (old & rare). Dodge used lots, I even have one (23spl output).
Heres your 'sweet' set-up. Dodge NP435 adapted to a Dodge NP203 gear box(stock pieces), then adapted to the T-case of your choice. D300/NP205.
All ya need is 1 adapter, and 1 shaft shortened & splined.
Overall I'ld say pretty cheap for a doubler set-up & 1:1,2:1,4:1 gearing.
22 3/4" from back of bell housing to end of NP203 gearbox. 11.5" for a Dana300 & probly a 2-3" adapter.
Dana 20 = 10.5"(1 more inch shorter)

welndmn - You say any Chevy 205 will bolt up to a Ford NP435 with the Ford 435 to 205 adapter? I was told by the guys at Offroad Design yesterday that I needed a 1985+ Chevy 205 and that I would need to swap in a Ford 205 input.

Rogue Bronco - That sounds cool, but wouldn't I need another adapter to go from a Dodge NP435 to my 258 engine? I was going to use a T150 bellhousing to adapt my 258 to a Ford NP435.

Chevy NP205's have 2 different female spline counts 27(TH350) & 32(TH400). The SM420's use a male input(10spl.) w coupler, I 'think' the SM465 uses a female input in the later trannies/T-case combos.
Ford NP435's have 2 different male spline counts 28(2x4) & 31(4x4).
This is why U need the Ford input(to match the Ford output).
The Chevy NP205 will NOT bolt directly to the Ford NP435. Chev & Dodge use an hour glass type bolt pattern, Ford uses a circular bolt pattern. (It can be done tho)
This would re-use the stock Ford NP435 to NP(whatever) adapter which is 8 5/8" long (I think there is only 1 size).

The Ford(4x4) & Dodge NP435's have the same case.
Use your Ford NP435 & put a Dodge output shaft into it, and bolt a Dodge adapter to it. It's shorter & 23spl. Using the Dodge junk re-uses all stock(accessable) pieces and is 2 5/8" shorter.

Or use a full Dodge NP435 and bolt your bellhousing to it instead of changing your output shaft. Same shit, less work.
The bellhousing bolt patterns look the same (I'll know for sure tonight, cause I'm pullin one off).

?!?!WHATS ALL THIS CHEVY TECH DOIN' IN THE FORD FORUM!?!?

Hey while we're talking about Ford trannies, what do you guys know about the Ford 4-speeds with OD that came in late 70s early 80s F150 and vans? Does that have the same front face bolt pattern as a NP435? Is it a good tranny?

A four speed with overdrive? You mean just like a 5-speed?? :flipoff2: LOL
Longer, lighter(aluminum), and not as well proven IMO.
I've never realy looked into the 5-speeds as they are too long for my app. (& I drive my junk hard).
With the low first gear of the NP435, I'm goin with higher gears in the pods to get some speed outa my land sled.
If your goin 5-speed(O.D.), look at NV4500's :D :D

THE BELL HOUSINGS ARE DIFFERENT!!
The 'spread on the Dodge bell is 2 5/8"
The 'spread' on the Ford bell is 6 3/8" (but can be changed).
The Ford NP435 has a place for the bolt hole to be drilled in it, the Dodge doesn't.
So use the Ford case with the Dodge output in it.
Plus the support / leverage would be WAY better with the bolt holes being 6" apart, compaired to 2.5" apart.
I got some pic.s if someone wants to postem.

No, I mean a 4 speed where the third gear is 1:1 and the fourth is an OD gear. :flipoff2: They came in late 70s early 80s F150s and vans. Anyone have any experience with them?

BTW - thanks for the info on the NP435s! ;)

I'ld guess it wouldn't have a 'bull low' first right??
Cause if it does its a 2 speed with overdrive(know what I mean?)
The spread must be pretty huge.
I'ld see drivability probs with heavy trucks & smaller engines. Need power to compensate for the spread between gears.

City driving = leave it in first gear
Country driving = leave it in second gear
Hiway driving = leave it in third gear
LOL :D

THose O/D boxes are pretty much useless junk, the only one that's any good is the iron case one that looks like a toaploader, but, even then, the ratios are crap. :barf: The only way I'd use one in anything would be if I was totally broke, and couldn't beg borrow or steal a decent transmission... :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
