I really suggest you avoid cutting deeper than the base rubber surface height.

FYI myself and a buddy of mine were cutting up a bald swamper that he had laying around and we were able to cut down into the tire almost a half an inch before getting to the outermost layer of belts. Although I wouldnt want to run a set of tires on the street at all that were cut down much farther than the outer carcass of the tire for fear of belt and tread separation.

I think TNToy cut up a set of 36 tsls when he first did his sas that didnt have too much tread on them.

I have grooved a set of 36" SX Swampers that had the center lugs worn down to were it was smooth all the way around.I grooved it back out to were it looked like it did before it was worn & then ran them until they were completly bald.most of the ware came from road miles. Those were some tough tires, they never needed a plug & never leaked. Go for it ,you will get another half alife out of them.

cool

the center lugs are really what are worn out, there's like 1/4 tread remaining, if i can get another 1/4 or so tread by grooving, the tires will be awesome and i'll be able to use em for quite a while offroad. now to find somebody with a groover around here that i can use.
