Hey Guys,

I am rebuilding the engine in my daily driver. It is a mitsubishi 3.0. I ended up getting 10:1 pistons, and a bunch of other nice stuff, higher flow injector, blah blah blah.

Anways, what do you guys know about engine coatings.

I found a couple sites the claimed longer wear reisistance and a little more hp from coating your bearing and piston skirts with a graphite like substance.

They also coat the tops of the pistons with a thermal barrier... and another type of coating on the bottom.

Does any one have any opinions on these types of coatings?

Thanks,

Part of the job of the piston is to transmit some of the heat from combustion down through itself and into the block. These coatings slow down that process.

I don't see any problems however, with coating your intake runners (helps keep intake mixture cool for density = power) and the exhaust ports (keeps exhaust velocity high = better scavenging for more power)
