Thinking about lifting my Toy. I have 31s on my 86 4runner, and I want to see what it would look like (see how funny it is). I am also considering a base SAS (crossover, sheap front springs, all other necessary stuff. Opinions?

Actually, it looks really funny. I run 33s right now (The 'right size') for a 4" IFS lift. Mine rubbed until I trimmed a little, since my winch and bumper make the front end sag.

Save your money until you can lob a solid axle under that bad boy. The IFS lift sucks since you have the ground clearance to attempt the harder trails, but you get sick of spinning tire like a little bitch and wearing crap out in the front end. (Ooh! Can I replace the balljoints again now? Goody!)

And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go drool on the soild axle calling my name out back...

"Install me... install me..."

Go down to Kongs 4x4. Mark's wife has a nice 4" IFS 1st gen. 4 runner with 33's. You can also drool all over all the sas trucks with 35's and 38's!

AZToy,
I run 33's on my '86 4Runner. I have a 4" suspension lift and a 2" body lift as well. I have plenty of tire clearance all around ( the 2" body helps a lot). I also still have an IFS front end. I am not a real hard core wheeler, so I don't mind having the IFS over the solid axle (even though, if I could afford one, I would put one on tomorrow). I still have just as much fun in it w/the IFS. Mine is a daily vehicle, so I still wanted to have a some what smooth ride. Plus it's still kinda original, (concering the IFS setup anyway). As soon as I can get my friend to put some pics of my Runr on my computer, I will post some. Good luck.

Do what Zags said and go see Mark at Kongs4x4. Don't waste your money on that IFS crap. If you wheel, you'll eventually cut it off and go SAS. Do a small body lift or cut your fenders out to fit them. Put some low pro bumpstops on and carry some spare IFS parts and you're wheeling cheap. Or do the SAS off the bat and be $ ahead in the long run.

here is a pic of my truck. I have a 4 inch trailmaster lift and about 1 inch body lift and I'm running 32x11.50 Super Swamper SSR's.

and here is the only side pic i have of the truck...

It looks alright, but a little bigger tire would look a little better on it.

That "hot red yota" sticker on the windshield has to go!!!
Take it off ASAP or I will be forced to fly up there and slap several "Party Girl" glittery stickers over it.

Heres my beater, only the lift is about 3" and the tires were 31's.

BTW, I agree with what everyone is saying about junking the IFS. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all. Though I can't relate to having IFS then swapping, I can say a solid axle is the only way to go. IFS lifts cost SOOOOOO much, just do a SAS and invest your money right from the beginning. DON'T DO IT 2 TIMES!
