A lot of people asked me about my t-case brake setup so I finally took a few pics of it.

I went to a local metal fab place and bought a 7" diameter 1/8" thick stainless disk drilled for my output flange (old style with small bolt holes). I went to a local autoparts store and bought a mechanical caliper made by Airheart, apparently it's the same one used by Wilwood. It came with a caliper mount kit that you can weld or bolt on. The label on the caliper says: Tol-o-matic, Hamel, MN, USA. Part # 30000001, Descr. :0213930 CAL MB1-12CW. D-30005002.
The disk cost me $35 CDN and the Caliper was $60 CDN. including the mount. I used my original rear brake cable routed around to come off the driver's side frame. So the total cost was $95 CDN plus some fabbing.

That's a cool setup man. You make the T-case xmember? Looks good. I recently bought a bender so I was thinkin' of trying that.

As I'm in Canada as well, what store did you get the Airheart caliper from?

I got the plate that bolts to the t/case from DRM and I made the crossmember with my tubing bender. The caliper came from Princess auto.

OMG!!! I was thinking the same thing. That disk and caliper are used on the go-carts we sold at work. Thats a great idea. but it can be done a whole lot cheaper. a go-cart caliper which is the same one that u have is about $15 bucks and the disk is about $7.

I used a snowmobile caliper on the one that I built for my friend. It doesn't have quite the clamping force that mine has though.

Hows the pricess auto caliper holding up I'v seen it before but was iffy on its strength?

So you use that INSTEAD OF your rear brakes? Isn't it a lot smaller? Doesn't it warp a lot due to having to apply so much force to stop? Or am I missing something?

I think your missing something its an e brake only.

my breaks still work but in the future when i can get ride of the drums! nice idea

FYI... that would be a parking brake... not a substitute for an emergency brake or a rear brake.

Pretty snazzy setup y'got there. Nice work. Those t-case mounted e-brakes are popular with the Samurai crowd, too. Does it hold as well as the original drum e-brakes to you? Have you used it in a true 'emergency' situation? Don't mean to sound pessimistic <IMG SRC="smilies/blush2.gif" border="0">

I was looking through the Northern Tool catalog last night - I saw a rotor for like $15 and a caliper w/ universal bracket for like $27...
