Here are a few pics of my rig. For all who care it is an 86 Eddie Bauer Bronco with a built 78 460 and C6 and a 79 NP205 out of another Bronco. I pulled the 9" and swaped in a rockwell 2.5 ton toploader axle in the rear, and will soon swing one under the front. Sorry they are so dark, I'll try to post clearer ones when I can.

Here is a pic of the front end of the rear leaf. Inspired by impressive pics posted by Fullsizes Rule I moved my springs under the frame. I stuck with the stock Ford spring instead of the longer late mod. GM springs. This was good for about 3" of lift. You can see where I hacked off the bottom of the old hanger at the top of the pic and the rockwell over to the left. (I have a rocker panel bar thats welded to the outer lip of the hanger so I couldn't cut the whole thing off)

I made the bracket out of some 4X6 steel cut in half. The rear bracket is the same.

Like I said, when I can I will get more better pictures I will post em.

Slug, do we gotta talk..I have set Front and Rear 2.5 ton Rockwells, and Im gonna do the same as you.. Just need the time..So did you cut the axles down? Awesome bud... <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

do you have a pic of the Pinion/ Driveshaft?

Details, we want details! I am planning to put some bigger axles under my truck also, from russian military truck.

Close up pics would be cool, and which setup are you going to use on the front axle? Coils or leafs?

Da Beef, no I didn't cut it. They are just like they were when they were cut from the truck. The wheels are the military 20 inch rims, and if you flip them around the track is narrower than stock. Anyway, I think I like the wide track. You say you have a set? What are you doing for wheels?

Fordpowr, yea the U-bolts are to long, but it was the only lenth I could get them in. When all is settled I will cut them down and re thread them. I haven't figured out what I am going to do for wheels and tires yet. I plan on setting it up on the 9X20 military non-directional tires (40 inches tall) and then swich over to a 44" swampers and cut out the fenders if I can find some affordable wheels with the right bolt pattern. Otherwise I could run a set of 47" firestones like the militay 5 ton trucks run. They fit on a 20 inch rim and have great big lugs and are nice and wide. I haven't found a scource for them yet and I don't know how much they cost. Also they probably weigh 200 lbs a tire (they are big mama-jamas)

Welndmn, I havent gotten the drive shaft made yet, but the pinion angle looks to be pretty close and there is enough room around the center section. I will post pics of that as soon as I can get em'.

Jr4x4ee, I haven't decided on the front axle yet. I am leaning to leafs but running coils are awful tempting. I haven't even bought a front yet actualy, I told myself I would do it one axle at a time, so I wouldn't have my truck up on jack stand on all four corners. Like I said, I will post better pics as soon as I can.

Oh yes, It didn't show up very good in the pics, but that white car beside my truck is going to be my tow rig when all this is done. It's a '69 caddie hearse.

If there is anything elts y'all want specific pics of just ask and I will do the best I can.

Yes i have a set od Rockwells... If you call Jim Boyce of Boyce equipement, he can get you custom wheels made.. Finf his number in a yahoo search.. Boyce equipement, he also sells lockers for rockwells, disc brake kits, looks killer...Good Job

If you are going to use a 2.5 in the front you will most likly have to lift it more or cut the hell out of the cross member. This is the problem I ran into on an 89 f-250. Also you can get a set of "super single" wheels off a deuce. Then you can run the tubeless tires in 49" or 53".

We made a set of rims for a J-10 on 2.5 rears. only problem was that we hade to space them way out to clear the drums.

i used to have a 74 chevy shortbed with rockwells under it. mine were narrowed. basically you cut down the long side to match the short one. all oe parts that way.got most of my stuff from boyce. you might want to try stockton wheel and some others for your rims also. the pinion angle is nothing since the axles are double gear reduction top loaders. 6:17 and 6:72 are the only 2 gear ratios available that i know of. makes for a pretty crappy top speed, even with 44's. also, these pigs weigh just about 1000lbs each! pull the drums and put the disc on the driveline. relatively inexpensive and saves a couple of hundred pounds right off the bat. avalanche was making some custom chrome-molly housings. nice and light, but i'm sure they were'nt giving em away.
i was not very thrilled with the end result because the gearing was too low and the axles are not that strong! i broke a couple of shafts and hve talked to others who have had the same problem. should have stayed with the 1 ton stuff.
but, if you want something big for the mud, they are the ticket.

adelmans.com and usa6x6.com sells their axles, wheels and tires for alot less than Boyce or Memphis Equipment does. I forget where I saw it, but a guy can get chromoly axle shafts for their toploader too. But, as you can imagine, they won't be cheap.

adelmans and usa6x6 are lookin pretty good to me

OrangeFJ, I've heard the same things about the shafts not being that strong. I recall seeing Avalanche break at least one shaft in ARCA, I realize they're on some fairly extreme terrain, and they're running 44's but it seems that given the low weight of the Sniper you'd expect to break *something* else first? Plus I think the Sniper only ran a Chevy 350 (I don't mean to say ONLY as I'm sure it was massaged, but still we're not talking about a Rat stroker or anything). Also, aren't the shafts a relatively low spline count, like 17 or something? Nonetheless, I think it's sweet to see Rockwells under a full-size Bronco!
