I was driving to work today and I came up to a red light and my truck died. I started it again(fired right up) but as soon as I let my foot off the gas it died again. It runs like normal as long as I continue to giv it gas(even a little). Does anyone know what could cause this and what to do to fix it?

22R has a mechanical fuel pump, and when the RPMs go down the fuel pressure also goes down. The fuel pump could be getting old. It's very easy to replace, it's right on the front of the engine.

Have you checked the timing?

My buddy just had the same thing happen to his and found out the hose had ripped across the inlet to the intake just aft the clamp. We cut the hose back behind the tear and re-clamped it then duct taped it around for good measure and limped home before he could buy another. Check hoses and clamps around intake, it could be that easy. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I replaced the fuel pump and filter last night and it didnt seem to help. I ran it after both for a few min with my foot on the gas and once again as soon as I let off it died. Here is the wierd part. I went out this morning started and idled. Revved the engin and it died the same way. Started it up again and it idled and stayed running even when I took it around the block(engine had to drop to idle for 3 stop signs). What does all this mean? Do you still think it is the vaccume lines?

my friend had this problem on his 82.
turned out to be a bad wire to his emissions computer. he was able to get by for quite a while by bumping the wire harness with his foot when it would start to miss.
he has since replaced the wire harness and has had no problems since.

derek

Did you check your idle cut-off soloniod?? If it gets stuck or not engaged it will not idle..
Otherwise its an interal problem, and no way a fule pump will cause this..

I think crash is on the right track here, I had the same symptoms a few years back and it was the idle cut off solonoid, mine had backed out, all I did was tighten it up! and it went away.

Float level has nothing to do with it, it would be a restriction, if it was a float level problem then he would have a problem with gained rpm's
