let's hear it. I am interested in doing a budget SAS. Was just curious how much you all spent on yours, and whether you fabbed it yourselves or used the all pro kit. I have very little fabrication skills, which is why I am putting an IFS lift on for now. Thx

i cant weld(good), but i cut the ifs off with a 4 inch angle grinder and did all the mechanical parts of the swap. unfortunately the SAS puts you in a sitution where you long for lockers, dual cases, flexy rear setup, nerfs, etc, etc. its contagious and youll never be done with your "project"$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

one hundred million dollars!!
but seriously, it can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it really. Depends on how available parts are to you and how much you can do yourself. I have never actually tallied mine up because its too difficult. I fabbed up everything possible and then had a donor truck that I took the axle and stuff from too. one thing I know for sure, good planning is really important!!!!

What kind of budget can you have with those credentials? I suggest you have and unlimited budget. Then you'll have a chance.
Me, I have a folder full of reciepts. You want to come over and add them up? You can if you want, just don't tell me what it adds up to. It would change my attitude on the trail.
Oh, just so you know. I did all my own work. Everything, except for setting the pinion. AND I still don't want to know. I did use the All Pro spring bracket up front to save some time.
Some kid stopped me the other day and asked me what I would sell my truck to him for. I told him $50,000 cash. No less. Don't want to start over just yet.
Before I go....
What's a budget????

I'm at ~$4,000 now. I started with a 4wd tacoma, IFS no lift and now I have a 2wd SFA tacoma (no front shaft). All that's really left for the short term is gears and a front driveshaft. That'll put me up at the $5,000 level and I'll have a SA Tacoma, V6, ARB rear, open front. Automatic. Chevy 63s in the back, AllPro LongTravel 5" in the front and 35x12.5 BFG MT KMs, RS 5000s at the corners, Histeer with GM rod ends and rockstomper rock rods. And bentup.com protection all around. Still to come is an ARB for the front, a winch and a marlin. I'm expecting another two years before I finish that little list. I still need to create a box of trail spares too. But basically, the swap can cost as little or as much as you want. I could have saved money going with used springs up front, less lift keeping stock tires, a detroit instead of an ARB.. you get the idea.

I'm at $1500 at the moment, that's F/R axles with 5.29's and X-over (used) and 44044 springs and 9012 shocks. Still need to make shackles, and front hanger, get a better rear setup, dual case adapter and tcase, driveshafts...Damn this post sucks!! Now it's all setting in.
But I hope to get some pennies back selling the IFS setup, 4.88's and lockers that I currently run.
MTN GOAT, glad I'm not you and remember all my purchaces..

I spent about $3 grand. I don't have any tools to make stuff myself, so i used the complete AP kit. Caught the SAS kit on sale for $1650 (yes, thats on sale) , and then got allpro rear kit w/ greasable shackles and the perch kit. The rest in in the axle. APs a little pricey, but if you can't make it, what are you gonna do? Plus, you know the stuff is made right. And very good quality!

Well im at about $2400.00 for my Dana44 front / 8" rear swap.
I still need to get gears, spool(R),locker(F), and drive shaft.
So for a grand total for the solid axle swaps, i am at about $4000.Damn.
Im runnin 33" SSRs for a little bit longer till i can afford some new 36"SXs, or 37" Boggers, and trail ready beadlocks, and thats another easy 1700 bucks.
Then i need to get the new Taco, Marlin crawler and that a quick grand or two!
It just DOES NOT stop!!!!
There is no such thing as a budget with wheelin!

About $800 into the SAS, thats after parting out a 79' for its axle and t-case, and selling my IFS lift, and locked 5:29 IFS diff. Thats doing all the work myself exept welding, only have about $120 in welding, tacked everything, then had someone who new what they were doing weld it up. Designed my own front hanger and frame tubes.

yeah, except I'm getting my used Trailmaster IFS kit, rockstomper travel kit, and RS9000 shocks all for $400. Can't beat that for price. I may get the IFS lift, then start collecting parts for a SAS, and I could probably sell the IFS lift again for the same price to someone else.

About $600. Thats the hysteer arms and front springs. Everyting else comes from srape rapts that are from other projects so they don't count. Plus as long as I buy her diamonds, she don't watch.
