I just installed my Posi Lock into my YJ. The instructions sucked but i got it done in about an hour. It needs a few minor tweaks to be perfect and i still have to wire up the switch for the light!

I am wondering what the actual procedure is to lock this thing. The directions are useless for this and i had one wheel up and was moving the handle around in various positions and such and it would lock and unlock but not really in any specific position, whats the trick here? Whats the pattern? Does it just need to be adjusted?

Seems like there is no ryme or reason to the locking sequence

Check out pg.100 of the january JP. They do a Posi install. Looks like a diffrent accuating knob than yours. With the one they have you push a red button and pull out.

It needs to be adjusted on the axle mount and in the cab, there is to much slack in the cable, Take out the breather plug and stick something like a long scribe all into the hole untill it is touching the shifting fork. Have someone in the cab to slowly start pulling the handle when you feel the fork start to move stop pulling on the T handle, that is how much slack that needs to be taken out! Don't know if it's the same, but I have one in my S10. I just pull the T-handle & twist it 90deg to lock it.

Mine feels like it has play in it when i twist it.

As soon as i pull it my 4WD light comes right on but it isnt necassarily engaged.

This mean the cable can be adjusted?

I can't quite remember how I took the "slack" out. But I know there is some adjustment at the end of the cable.
Take the assembly off of the axle and have the cable pushed all of the way in. Put the assembly next to the collar so that you can see where the fork aligns itself with the collar. Now pull on the cable until it brings the collar far enough over so that the collar would fully connect the two axle shafts. Looking at my instructions they talk about an E-clip that needs to be snug against the inside of the assembly. You rotate the assembly to "tighten" it.
I don't remember it being too difficult to do when I put mine in last year. Do you have the instructions? Looking at mine they don't seem to help much. But I don't remember having to deal with slack.

I recently installed one on my grandpa's 89 yj. It was a sweet east install. Great looking product it must be idiot proof <IMG SRC="smilies/thefinger.gif" border="0"> Just kidding I agree its kind of not easy to tell if its all the way engaged or not... I just yank REAL hard while rolling (there seemed like it needed differentiation to lock all the way). I did in in 2wd and it went better than in 4wd. I like it better than the suck thing on it before but its still a dana 30 <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> He doesnt really need a dana 60 on a stock jeep. But the bettery had corroded the vacuum lines and wouldnt lock correctly when it was working.
