Where'd you go today? (or yesterday, or last week....)

Had 90 minutes to waste yesterday aft so I headed East to Wagon Wheel, NM to look around.

Found this big arse pile of reclaimed asphalt.

Found a nice dirt road...

...that 11 miles in, ended with many "Private road. Do not continue" signs at this ranch...

...so I flipped around and headed for some refreshment. :grinpimp:

Local trails were packed this weekend!

Went out with my buddy and his kids. They are ripping our rocky singletrack.

Got some miles in this past weekend, headed up down 83/82 between I-10 and the international border, about 350 miles.

Also had a near miss on I-10 on the way back. An entire inner wheel liner! blew up off the embankment at about head height on a signed 75mph stretch, so doing about 80- actually thought it was a truck tire carcass at first but seemed to 'hang' in the air a bit too long for something of that mass:eek:. I had what seemed like 2-3 seconds to react, and hit the brakes as hard as was reasonable. The braking slowed me enough that the fawking thing landed square in front of me on the tarmac, there really was no way to swerve at that point. I released the brakes figuring I'd be fawked if either wheel skidded on the thing and it passed under the bike without wrecking me thank God. Getting home and looking the bike over, it cut the O2 sensor wiring harness, put a crease in a couple of the cooling hoses and left a few noticeable marks on the exhaust. I guess it could have been a lot worse....

Damn!! Any permanent damage to the seat?
The seat is probably still up his butt.

Dang glad you're ok man, that shit is scary! I had a looooong length of that plastic strapping fly up from the highway and catch me around the neck! I though for SURE a car behind me was going to run over the end and slice! Decapitate me immediately.

Whatever doesn't kill ya...:grinpimp:

Seat is ok, good thing the stock seat is hard as a rock

Definitely a life flashing in front of your eyes moment. My two quick thoughts were:
-That is going to cut or break my neck or decapitate me.
-slamming the pavement at 80 and then being run over by the tailgating traffic behind me is going to suck.

But yeah, thinking about limiting my exposure to interstates after that one :p
Wow. Crap that must have been scary. Glad you are ok. :smokin: a harley guy would have just “lay’er down”. :flipoff2:

Cut this big arse tire in half last night and put it out on the training grounds with some others.

Today got my working from home, lunchtime workout in. The rainbow tires are freaking intimidating. Not bad once you just sack up and attack them a little bit. Have to have your technique right to get enough traction, and not get high centered. Good stuff.

Whew. Added a slippery tube of death.. That thing sucks! Wedge, some logs. And finally figured out how to get over the big tire. Things a PITFA with a rim hole bigger than my rear tire.

Don't your neighbors complain about all the noise??

I had a Buell that sat way over like that. Turns out the side stand bolts had backed out of the case:eek:. Thats the Harley DNA for ya, LOL.
Great pics Sceep,
agreed! :smokin:
For a more street oriented tire, I can't get over how awesome the Road Pilot 5's are. I've been on the sidewall of them confidently dragging a knee, and at 7000 miles now they still look new!
Re-visiting the tires- and apparently not heeding any advice given other than I saw a "shiny object", I got some Pilot Power 2CT's on the bike today. Holy crap the bike rides completely differently  I guess aggressive turn in comes to mind?

I meant to go with the Road Pilot's but too late now. I got 9500mi out of the Roadsmart's but admit they were done 3000 miles ago, and just been tip-toe'ing it around. I know I'm not going to repeat the performance with the PP's.

Also got an unintentional upgrade/downgrade to a 525 series chain. My stocker (520) has been beat for the last couple thousand miles with a bunch of hopelessly tight links and it didn't feel right to me. Guy that was swapping parts for me got into it, realized he ordered 525 sprockets instead of 520's, and the rest is history. The chain looks kinda out of place on there but oh well... I realize most people go the other way and go from 530 and 525 s to a 520 on much more powerful bikes to pickup a couple HP. ugh. :homer:
