what is the best way to get all the power steering fluid out of my steering system so i can put ATF in it? thanks

i was told to unhook the low pressure line from the pump, so it is still connected to the res.
and run it till its empty, then start over.

probably you could use somekind of drive, like and impact or something so you dont have to run the truck.

ATF automatic trans fluid? Why? Is it better than power steering fluid?

Toyota calls for ATF in the power steering. I would never put powersteering fluid in, its not as good of a lubricant for the pump.

Yup, Dexron or Dexron 2 is what the manual calls for.

I was always told just make sure to use the red power steering fluid.. its what I use with no problems (well, the truck steers too easy, if you call that a problem)

But ya, take off the return line, turn on the truck, and keep filling up the res. with ATF, trying not to run the system dry. Then I would put the line back on, flush the system by turning the tires back and forth, then drain and re-fill again.

But thats just how I would do it.
