Can I do a mini truck conversion on my '77 FJ40 w/ a PTO winch? What are the limitations of this type of conversion versus the Scout? Ie tire size, replacement parts etc.
Thanks,
Brian
Yes, the minitruck PS box will work with the PTO, since it is pretty much the same box in the same location. Since it uses the stock drag link and center arm, it has the same tire size limitations as the manual steering: anything over 35 inches is going to rub on the drag link unless you adjust the steering stops and decrease the turning radius.
Yeah,
I tried an archive search but couldn't find the information I was looking for (compatibility of different p/s conversions on vehicles equipped w/pto winch). That's why I posted my question. I found info about the compatibality of the pto & Scout P/S conversion and even a way of doing a Saginaw w/ a pto.
Thanks for the info Pinhead and the non-conscending tone of your reply.
Take a look at some of the links on my site...not sure if people specifically address PTO compatibility or not....I do know a couple people running Scout setups with a PTO. I also know that the Mini setup is not recomended for anything bigger than 35" tires...I could rub my 33's on the rods before I switched to Scout.
I am running a scout sag with a factory PTO and I love it!. In my opinion the scout box is a clean swap, its stonger than the pu box and the BEST THING,............you can shitcan that fawkin center arm!
if your gonna keep the winch, do the scout box <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
