Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am pulling the TRE-like thing out of an IFS pitman arm so I can weld in an insert and use a chevy TRE. I am thinking a press would be the best but I don't have one so I guess I will be running to a friend's house if I can't hammer it out.
Grind the lip of the top sheetmetal cap. You can see where it is formed around to capture the top cap. Its thin, so wont take much. Once its ground through, pull all the junk out with a screwdriver. Clean up the pitman, and press in the insert.
This little ol' Snap-On tool is what I use. It works really well. I just take the castle nut off, turn it over and thread it back on until the end of the nut is almost even with the end of the threads so as not t' damage the threads...
