Saw a guy on JU that did this to his '88 YJ. Besides a cj radiator, what else would have to be done to the YJ to make this work? Anyone else done it?

How about finding a CJ clip/hood/fender's, think that would be hard to do?

Hey Dan! Very do-able...think of all those Scramblers with the YJ front ends.(thats a good way to screw up the looks of a Scrambler...)I helped a friend do this about 8 years ago, the only thing that wasn't a easy swap over was all the crap hung on the inner fenders, and we had to oblong some bolt holes. I don't remember whay year the CJ parts were from, probably doesn't matter much though. You shouldn't have any trouble doing this. how'd the Clayton compitition go? I was in Moab and wasn't able to make it...like i'd pick Clayton over Moab <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> Later...

my buddy also added a CJ dash to his YJ, I didn't help on that project so I don't know how much trouble it was, he didn't have air cond. or a radio so that helped. Looked cool!

That's another thing I'd LOVE to do. No A/C so that wouldn't be a problem. I could figure out how to work the radio in somehow. I just don't know what's behind the YJ dash, or how the steering would have to work...

Anyone ever seen a writeup on this?

i have basically done this.. tho i built from scratch.. i have a yj frame.. and tub/windshield frame.. i have a cj front clip and dash in..
the clip is easy.. radiator.. and you have to trim the bottom of the fenders.. since the yj frame is wider.. about 2-4".. not hard but time consuming.. if you take your time..
the dash isnt bad.. i didnt have anything yj.. so i had a cj stuff.. controls/guages.. but the hardest part is cutting/fabbing up the defroster ducts.. again time consuming but very doable..

Have any pictures? I'd love to take a look. I would probably have to get new duct work right? How does the top of the CJ dash even look, are there vents there for defrost? All the YJ has is defrost and floor blower/vent.

you can use the cj duct work.. but what you have to do.. is cut the holes in the windshield frame.. and then on top of the tub (under the windshield frame) i put some sheet metal there.. then cut out the holes.. there is a lack of sheetmetal there.. some of the holes like the windshield hold down knobs.. dont line up.. have to drill them out alittle on the dash..
i also used autometer guages.. except for speedo..

Just use the YJ dashpad and ducting with the YJ windshield. Then use everything out in front CJ. I am in the process of doing this and I am going to use a custom dash (incl all Autometer guages) and the YJ dashpad. That way I don't have to change the ducting or cut holes in the windshield frame.

Now the one thing I will have to do is get the setup correct for the YJ heater/air controls in the custom dash plate.
