Both my Edelbrock SP2P and Performer manifolds had the provision for the thermal choke. You just basically need a flat horizontal surface to mount the thermal coil to that takes heat directly from the manifold. By that I mean that you shouldn't build anything like a shelf that could have air flow underneath it, as that would defeat the purpose.
Beyond that, it is just a matter of bending the linkage a few times between cold starts and hot idles until you get the appropriate range of motion.
