I want to try running my yj with a quarter eliptical suspension in the rear over a 14 bolt but my problem is in the front I want to run a Shackle reversal system with Rancho 44044's (1.5 inch lift wagoneer springs for any body is to hardcore to know what those are) soa on a Dana 44 I have laying around until I break it and find a 1 ton this is where my question comes into play I want to run 38's so I need to know where I can get or how I can fab a set of quarter eliptical spring with enough lift to do that Also the Rancho springs in the front move my front axle up two inches and I have heard two different answers for this, will I need to move my gear box and if so whats the best way to do it............

If I was going to try 1/4 elliptical, I would try using one ton rear leaf packs from a chevy and just choppin off 4-6 inches after the center pin and hoping the springs would work. Why not just go coil over or coil/shock. You going to have to do a 3 or 4 link anyways.
I just see the fabrication easier doing a coil vs quarter ellipticle.

Setting the ride height for 1/4 suspension has more to do with where the springs are mounted to the axle. As for springs I have always had Alcan Spring build custom leaf packs for me. Many years ago I used to cut up spring packs to make them. You will get much better performance from the Alcan one.

I have not built many 1/4 lip setups over the past couple of years. In the old days I think we were building one or two a month. With the price of coil over shocks these days we normally go that direction. Like mentioned before either way you are building a 4 link. There are advantages to going 1/4 lip. One being it is super easy to keep everything under the vehicle rather than having coil overs sticking through the floor. In other words easier to keep a rear sear if needed. I am not saying you can not do that with coil overs. I have done it. Also depending on what rig you are building you may have to either section the frame or back half the frame in order to get enough room for coilovers. Personally I would just put coilovers on the rig and not look back. Just a couple things to think about.

I thought about doing a coilover but I like the simplicity that goes into the quarter eliptical I have the axle set up to have two links that run over the brace I have over the pumpkin that are supposed to link to the frame right behind my crossmember I have wheeled in a qurater eliptical rear suspension in the rear in my buddies jeep and I have also wheeled in a jeep with coils all around and just out of prefrence I want to do the rear with the quarter eliptical I was thinking about doing the front with coils but I have to see what my wallet thinks about that I like to call it the XJ feeling coils in the front and leafs in the back

it is actually more of a pain in the neck to set up 1/4 lip in my opinion. You are still going to have to build a 4 link. It is not just the two upper links and the springs. As for setting ride height, dialing in the suspension, and so on coil over are WAY more simple.

Listen to Dan, he speaks the truth.

I have spent quite a few evenings trying to help friends figure out how to package a 1/4e and 4-link under their vehicle. Throwing a set of coils under there is a ton easier, as are air shocks. Coilovers can be a little trickier, but still are less time consuming than 1/4e from what I've seen.
