I need to get my truck inspected and have to get the ebrake working to pass. I HATE DRUMS, they are a nightmare with all the rust from road salt. I'd like to put on a transfer case mounted ebrake, probably an All-Pro. The review of it on ORN mentioned that extra-cabs and longbeds need an extra section of cable, why is that? The distance to the transfer-case is the same for all 4 cyl 84-95 Toys

Any other parts I might need?

Thanks for the info

Yeah, Eli... RUST SUCKS. I'm also considering buying one of these kits.

The only thing that I can think of is that it's not the distance to the transfer case that matters, but the xcab & LB trucks will have a longer cable than the SWB trucks, since the cable runs to a bellcrank thingy on the horsecollar in stock configuration. The horsecollar is further back on the LWB trucks, so the front cable section is longer. Maybe the cable is too long, and you have to get a SWB cable to make it work right.

Hoping Chris Geiger jumps in here to clarify.

I have an 80 lwb and I never had to get a longer cable. A little rerouting will probably be just fine.

I have an 85 long box and did not need extra cable, it hooked up fine. Also I have no body lift either. I could smell it smoking a hour ago, guess I should disengage it before driving eh?

CAN this kit be installed without a body lift? This would be on a 90 IFS standard cab short bed.

Eli, I have one of these to put on my truck, but I probably won't put it on until I put in the solid front axle and dual cases. I imagine that you will have to do your inspection before that day comes.

Anyway, if you are not in a hurry we'll be hooking it up at Mike Fox's house. You and Ken are more than welcome to come and lend a hand and check out the product before plunking down your money.

I'm pretty sure that Eli (VT_Toy) never got one, but I did, I had it in my '84 xcab:

I really liked it, it's a MUCH better e-brake than the stock one, that's for sure. I did have to get a 4Runner front cable, as the stock cable in LWB trucks is too long, like Chis said. I need to get it installed in my '87 now, so I can finish up my Sky RDB setup install. I need to torch off the old t-bar mount and fab up a little tab for the cable to hook to.

I think the only downside of this e-brake is that if you lift one rear wheel off the ground, it's no longer an e-brake (assuming an open diff).
