The hole size starts out as a 5/8" straight through hole. Then hit it with the GM tapered reamer. I saw a thread on the GM reamer bit in the general section a few days ago...some places to get it and prices. Look a couple pages back in the general section...should be there. The 9/16" stud are a dorman part. Find a place with a good selection of dorman parts and search through those drawers until you find some that are about 3" - 3.5' long. The tapered nuts are simply 9/16" open end tapered lug nuts...can get those at autoparts stores off the shelf. They have a 45 degree taper in them...machinist call it a 90 taper (because the two edges fit square at 90 degrees).

Dorman/Motormite ... automotive parts company. Some autoparts places carry their parts. The studs cost me about $2.00 a piece. You can go to a GM dealer and get studs there also. They are like $5.00 there...ouch! They are 9/16" fine/fine thread. (Though the ones I used are coarse/fine thread). If you go to the dealer, ask for the studs that mount the steering arm to the knuckle....and it will cost you about $37 total! The Dorman parts are a much more affordable way to go.

Fine would be 9/16-18 and coarse 9/16-12...I think.

Since mine were coarse/fine, I put the coarse (9/16-12) side into the knuckle. This was necessary since the lug nuts are fine thread 9/16-18. If you are using fine/fine (like GM did), then you will just need a 9/16-18 tap for the fine thread. Here is a handy chart for tap and drill size... http://www.americanfastener.com/techref/tapdrill.htm

The tap I bought was just a simple Hanson brand from ACE hardware.
