Due to the size and heavy duty design of the R series gears, this is a common complaint. This is due in part because the constant mesh teeth on the side of the gears are of a more fine design than Americian truck transmissions. This results in added surface area and more teeth to engauge.
Changing to synthetic oil will help.
Mainshaft retainer plate wear and rounding of the tips of the constant run teeth will also cause this problem.
