Try some Redline MT-90 gear oil in it.
That should help, but eventually you're probably going to need a rebuild...

R151F tranny problem
Im having trouble shifting the R151F tranny when its cold.
when drive the truck when its cold it is almost impossible to shift it into 2nd... all other gears work fine but for some reason 2nd will not shift into gear until tranny worms up? anybody having this problem?

Synchros get worn over time, and as the bearings wear, the shafts get more play and the clutches don't like to engage as smoothly/easily anymore.
I had a bearing in my R150 tranny blow (the cage fell apart) and the guy who rebuilt it showed me the bearing play in the other bearings and how/why shifting was going to be getting more difficult if the other bearing hadn't blown anyway. I knew 2nd gear was a pain sometimes. The synchros he pulled out didn't look very worn at all, but the main shaft had some play and I guess even after you replace the bearings you have to shim the retainer to get rid of all the play. It didn't shift too bad before, but since the rebuild, it shifts AWESOME now.
Tim at www.transmissionexchange.com did the rebuild. Great guy.
