A little OT because real wheelers don't need ramps to get their junk up...

I need to build some ramps for a buddy. In addition to his rig, he needs to put a Kubota B21 up there.

Around here the standard is 2" angle iron (0.250) with the cross pieces being 2" angle, points up.

What would you do?

The same. That's the way all of the ramps on our lot trailers are. If you really wanted to go beef, use 2x2 box steel with a heavy guage angle, pointed up, in between. The angle pointed up will give you traction.

i just made some the same way 4' long

on my big trailer I throw and chuck of glulam on the ground and drive on that then on to the trailer.
On my good trailer I have a set of killer flip down ramps. If I were to build a setup I would for sure do the flip down style then you dont have to mess with them at all!

i was thinking of mounting mine as flip downs so i don't have to mess with them.. any down side to it? what is better flip or stored away?

Mine have the corner of the angle pointed down. I guess that gives me double the number of edges for traction. The only down side is they do hold water that way.

My 7' ramps store under the deck. I think is the best method. The ramps are out of the way, and don't bang around. Also, if you ever have to put a very long vehicle on your trailer, it will need to hang over the rear of the trailer. The fold up ramps would just get in the way.

under the deck is a cool idea. my fold ups sit straight up but can also fold down flat with the deck if your rig hung back and needed the clearance. I havent had a down side to it yet for myself cause I have two trailers so if I need to haul something long I just use the other.

I recommend using aluminum truck frame (big rig). It's light strong and easy to come by. Most scrap yards have it.
