I installed a 3 1/2 inch RE lift in my XJ yesterday. It appears that the front axle is off center. I don't know if it was that way before, or not (it was totaled a few years ago). I thought I might have mis-drilled the track bar hole, but I checked that and it is fine. Is this normal on the XJ? I don't have the $$$ to buy an adjustable track bar, so is there any reason I couldn't cut the end off of mine, drill it, tap it, and install a heim joint? Or, would that even solve my problem?

Well I just finished one last night too, and my front end is perfect. Did you redrill it 3/4" in? Check your coils, are they angled? IF so,then you got issues, if not, you still have issues, and I would recommend putting down the crack pipe, and backing away slowly.

please dear god tell me you are not talking about the front diff being offset to one side or the other...
No, I am not talking about the diff.;)

I am talking about one tire almost sticking out of the fender flair and the other tucked in a little too far.

Yes, I did redrill the hole 3/4" in. I measured it about 30 times. It was too hard to tell if the coils were angled or not. It wasn't very obvious if they were. I am gonna play with the track bar a little and see if I can't get it to move over a bit.

Which side is sticking out? Are the coils correctly indexed in the pockets? Are you using a 1" coil spring spacer? All of these could effect the side to side.

Not trying to be a dick, but you did move the hole towards the driver side 3/4", right?

It is possible to remove some of the bend from a track bar and push the axle more towards the pass side.

It is offset to the pass. side. Looks to be 1" or so. There are no spacers, and I indexed the springs in the pockets on the axle. I didn't see any index in the top.
Yes, I did move the hole 3/4 to the drivers side. I think it would be impossible to do it the other way.
Won't removing some of the bend cause clearance problems at the axle end?

It is moved too far over. If you move the track bar back to the original hole it will move the axle back toward the drivers side.

Was your truck lifted already? Old trailmaster kits had drop brackets for the track bar with a drop pitman arm. With these parts it is not neccesary to relocate the trac bar.

Also you remove bend on the diff side. But this will shift the axle more towards the drivers side.

I can't move the track bar back to the original hole, it won't clear the axle bracket.

The truck was all stock.

So, it looks like I either need to get an adjustable bar, or a drop bracket and put it back in the original hole, right?

Got a 4" grinder or a cutoff wheel? A little cutting goes a long way.

If not, I'd recommend a adjustable track bar. RE's is nice w/ a heim at the frame.

Or use there extreme duty w/ drop bracket and dropped pitman. This is a lot more expensive and I really don't think it is neccesary with a 3.5" Plus it hit the axle on my TJ with a 3.5".

Be prepared to do a little drilling to mount it on the frame end. Da hole ain't big enough.

You guys are forgetting taht the RE 3.5" kit does not NEED the adjustable track bar. You did something wrong on the install. Something is not setting right on this thing. You have a mistake in your installation process somewhere. Go double check your work.
