two questions: I had a Optima red top I which was working (but getting weaker) that I took out over a year and a half ago when I bolted my winch up.

I stored it well and I'm about to go dual batts and was wondering if I trickeled charged it; could be recovered for a dual batt system?

If not, the little stickers on the top were not removed and if I remove the right ones I'm still in the "free replacment" period. Is that only what they go by, or is it serial number too? I've got a buddy at a shop who could prob hook me up but I don't want him to get burned.

Last week when someone asked the same question, the common reply was that trickle charging is bad for Red Tops and full power charges work best.


Battery companies dont go by that sticker. They always read the date code stamped on the side.

are there "full power chargers" that you plug into an AC outlet, or do you need to put in the Jeep and run it?

I didn't realize there was a difference.

good battery chargers have a couple of options, one being 12a, meaning it gives it a larger jolt of juice rather than teh 2a which would be longer and slower jolts,. jiMMy

take it to an interstate battery store (if you have them there) have them charge it and do a load test to see if its any good.

most battery shops will do this free of charge in hopes of selling you a new one if it tests bad.
