Report from Norwegian Offroad competition

1929 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  GollyGwagen
Last weekend I Attended the Nordic Trial competition here in Norway. My opponents were 3 Hummers, 2 404 Mogs a Toyota HiLux and a Land Cruiser. I Ended up 5'th. I managed quite early to skid off a big boulder and bend my steering rod:

This resulted in an insane heavy steering. I had to get help from my co-driver sometimes to manage to starighten upp the wheels... I'm ready for Power Steering!!! But it has to be street legal too.

Here is some pics and videos:

Nice truck.

It is very difficult to fix the steering rods, they will never be the same once bent. This topic was on the mailing lists not too long ago and it came up that the steering rod was the one part that is common across all Unimog models.

I would suggest finding a replacement than trying to repair it. Or I could send you one off of one of my Mogs if you send me your hardcab. :D

I have a link somewhere that i'll look for and post that shows a street legal hydraulic assist system.

Later.

Oh ya, it kills me to see all of the Hard Cab 404s in the Offroad Trials over there.

I'd give my left one to have a nice Hard Cab. I have one that has a rough set of doors that aren't worth restoring. Know anyone that has some?..hehe

Thats good information. Makes it easier to find a replacement.

Well I got good help from two Finns who repeared my rod:

They simply banged the rod into a telephone pole and straightened it that way.

None of the hardcabs is mine, this one is mine:

I'm very interested in this one. My steering shock absorber got a hit from the boulder too so I'm looking for a hydraulic assist system replacement.

This rig is very sophisticated. It has unimog 411 axles 4w steering V8 engine and level controled suspension.

The red second and the white one fourth. A Hummer won
That black rig in the "Rod Straightening" picture is awesome! Is that a Mog?

Yep it's based on 406 mog frame and has 2 front axles, 44" bogger, chevy 350+th700+pieces of mog tranny and it's from Finland. It's owner is Tuukka Laasonen and Risto Riihelä.

And I own the Moggster that is shown on the pictures 6 and 7. Suspension in adjustable with hydraulic but still has flex when hydraulic pressure is on. This suspension system is very old. We designed it already at 1995 to our Chemog.

We used Moggster at this event, cause our other Mog axled "buggy" Alfaster has one broken portal at rear. See more of that at:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=144107

We ended up on 4th place at protype class and had roll over at last section and totalled some tubes of the roll cage and almosty every piece of the bodywork.
