so some guys were talking about 2 piece wheels and rim cages for mounting/dismounting the other day and i just got lost and realized i knew nothing about 2 piece wheels.

How does a 2 piece wheel work? whats a "cage" needed for?
Do hummer rims fall into this 2 piece "cage" neccessary set?

Rim cages are used for split rim type 2 piece wheels, I dont think youd really call a hummer rim that because its physically bolted together were as a split ring/rim type one actually just "pops" into a groove. They use cages because on occasion they "pop" outta said groove and fawk people up. We used rim cages in the military (when they were handy) on 2.5 rims

You were probably talking to someone that does heavy truck stuff and or some older 3/4 ton 1 ton trucks have 2 piece wheels. They have a ring that somehow keeps them together and sometimes it does not get seated properly and they fly apart.

My dad was in the motor pool in Monterey, CA (2.5 ton and 5 ton trucks) and watched one fly apart and break a guys ribs. Not something to skip the safety precautions on.
