What does backspace mean to a rim. Is that the measurement from outside the rim to inside.
I need the american designations ! I want to order some modified
hummer beadlocks and I want to transmit the measurement for the seller.

I am asking, cause in germany we have a negative and a positiv insertion depth, the measurement begins in the middle of the rim, when it is pos. then the center is outside, when it is neg. the center is inside. I hope you understand this "free" translation, but I think you know what I mean.

Thank you !

Backspacing is the measurment from the back of the rim to wheel mounting surface. So to measure that you lay your rim face down and then take a straight edge and lay it on the back of the rim. then you measure from the mounting surface to the bottum of the straight edge and that's your backspacing. hope this makes sense.
