I am going to build my first cage… I have done some research and from what I understand a lot of people recommend 1.75 x .120 DOM tubing…… My question is what do you think about 1.5x .120 DOM tubing… because I can get it from the muffler shop right next door for there cost. What is everyone’s opinion?

Second what do you think of the cage design.

looks good, I'd try to add some better support bars running from the main hoop to the back of the rig. lots of people use 1.5, that'll be fine.

You are planning on bending the tube and not just cutting and welding for your 90* joints at the top of the ws, right?

yea i am going to bend it.

I was going to use on piece of tubing to go from the rear hoop across the seat to the front and bend down to the floor\frame. Or do i do a front hoop and a rear hoop and then connect them?

1.5" DOM will be fine. Get the good deals why you can....steel keeps going up in price, every day the prices change. Here's a picture of mine....I still have a lot to do but I figure I'll wheel it anyway.

Good luck with it.:)

Hi Project_Samurai,

I have build my cage with 1.75 x 1.20. However, I think .095" is sufficient if you build enough triangulation into it.

Here is a link to my cage:
