Ok this may belong in the newbie section but I want the chevy guy's opinion. My new project is a '98 2wd to 4wd. I want to run a doubler so I was thinking is it possible to mate a 205 or 203 what ever it is that goes first, to a 98 4wd transmission. Or do I have to get an older trans also. Will the newer trans to older case require another adapter or will it bolt right up I guess is what I am getting at. Thanx in advance.

it is up to you to mate a 203 range box to whatever tranny you want to use in any doubler install.

not only is this newbie stuff but is also very vague.
WTF is a "98 4wd transmission"?
98 what? 1/2 ton? Tracker?
auto? manual?

ok a 98 chevy 2wd has got a 4L60E trans, and you will either have to swap to a 4L60E from a 4wd or do something with the tailshaft on the 2wd trans to even be able to bolt a transfer case of any kind to it...secondly a np203 gos first followed by a np205.....thirdly a 4L60E has the same 27 spline output shaft as a th700R4 so it will not directly bolt to a np203...the spline count is the same but the shaft is too long and you can not simply cut it off so what you need is a shorter output shaft from adanced adapters but to put it in you have to take apart the entire trans, you could swap in a th400 from and older chevy 3/4 or 1-ton along with the adapter plate from it, that would also be a great place to find a 203 but advanced adaptors has an adaptor for the th700R4 to np203 i think and it would work in your case so that's your cheepiest option

Hey you said it is a 2wd right now? Is it a long wheel base?

Why not just do a devorced mounted 203 to 205 doubler? Sure the devorced 203 is somewhat hard to come by and many people don't like that third shaft, but it will save you alot of headake trying to get another tranny in there and some odd 203 hookup.

that would work, but you would have to take in that the U-joint might be hard to get because it could need a conversion joint but i mean thats not a big problem if they make the right one if not then you gotta change the yoke on one of the two and you also gotta think about how much its gonna take out of your rear driveshaft i mean thats gonna take out 18"-24" of your rear driveshaft not good for a reg cab short bed if it is one

Dr. Watson at ORD can make configuations for just about anything.

I've seen a 203/Atlas II combo, as well as a WMS 203/203/205 combo.

so a 203 is pretty much in your future for the range box, but from there ORD can do some pretty trick stuff
