So a DIY car wash blew holes in my frame by the leaf mounts, pretty bad imo as I haven't driven it much since then. But we've broken ground! In the last 3 days I pulled out the man-power and had some buddies help me get the box off. Luckily I have a suspended winch in the shop which made the lift much easier.
We spent the last two days cleaning up the frame and prepping it for the auto rust tech caps. And new leaf mounts. Holy shit, a hammer and grinder left a huge mess but it's looking good!

Hopefully I can get a 50 degree day and break out a bead blaster to finish the job. ( it's 5 outside rn and there's 3 inches of snow that just blew in) hopefully these parts show up soon so I can get back on the road .

Finally got a little farther on the rust removal. I spent 50$ on a small media blaster and it works pretty damn good. If I had a bigger compressor and more crystal I could have it done in a weekend. Parts also showed up. New front leave mounts and the Weld on kit

Not sure where your located but looks like your shit could be my neighbor! In all honesty you could buy a stick of 2x5 or 2x4 and splice in the back half with some real steal! As long as the front half is worthy. And if you plan on a sas get 2 stick's and make a new frame ,arch it up a bit more in front . Use your original frame for measurements. I have been in your position before years ago and you will soon realize that you are throwing good money away. Looks like you don't have a lot of time in it yet.

Those look very interesting. My only concern would be long term. They will definitely work for the guy that wants to save his truck for a year or 2. Guessing it's a slip on type deal, from my past experience it won't last ad long as expected ,especially in the salt area. I would suggest block the truck up level . Set blocks up at the back of rails by bumper . Take the rear axle /springs out . Put your safety caps on and scribe the edge. Remove and cut all the old frame off , cut it heavy 1/16". Just take measurements before you cut and write them down. Take your time welding . I say this because with that repair piece you addin strength, but you are also creating a moisture sandwich with no possible way to under coat it . The best example is where the shocks mount , salt/sand get in there and no way to drain out. If you have any bodywork experience a good example would be any domestic truck with a rusty rocker. 25$ slip on rocker that the rotted nasty was not taken care of properly.

this was mostly for my safety as I didn't want to kink while chuggin along. Plans are for a small lift. (Bilstein 2.5 rear leaf/ shocks, and new front coilovers and new uca) but that's after this semester gets paid off

Gas tank is out of the taco! I will finish sanding tomorrow night and hopefully have it welded up by Wednesday night. Then it's prime, paint, wd40. And it's all getting put back together

Completely unrelated but holy shit that's a lot of trophies. What for?

Not mine but a friends shop. Those are ice oval snowmobile racing wins. Mr. Blaine Stephenson himself from MN rides the 102 Polaris. He's been at it since he was 3/4 years old. Started on kitty kats and loved it ever since.

I went and bought an angle grinder tonight and a 20 pack of cutting/grinding wheels. I plan on tracing plates and having a full kit to weld. The crossmembers are shot as well so I'll be using this square tubing to replace them. I realized the tank hangs there, and brake lines but it's necessary. Thoughts?

Well today the muffler got cut, and so did the cross pieces of the frame. I will continue to sandblast untill I feel as though it's adequate. For the time being I'll be prepping plates and almost a complete boxing in of the frame with new metal. I want this to survive my ownership so I'm going for it haha. I've read a lot about people scrapping these old trucks due to this issue. I don't have that luxury so I plan on seeing it to the end. Besides, I'm looking forward to the "I did it" moment when I'm finally on the road with it
