Some of you may know me and my dad are looking for an S10 to swap the frame and running gear under his 47 pickup. He found a screaming deal on a local truck (10 minutes away), the only problem is it's a 4x4 (1991).
Can you just take out the diff and axleshafts and junk out to make it a 2wd?
Or can you swap out the 4x4 spindles/hubs and swap 2wd ones on the 4x4 A-arms?
We may be going to check it out tonight to see what condition the frame is......

Easiest would be to pull out the front diff, and cut the CV's to make stub shafts - the hubs HAVE to have an axle shaft through them, or they'll separate. Cut the CV's right behind the splined shaft that goes through the hub, and you'll be in good shape.

I see....basically cut the stub shaft off after the CV joint more or less, right?
I'm not too familiar with Chevy IFS front's, how will that still help hold the hub together?

the stub holds the unit bearing together. the nut on the outside end of the stub shaft ties the bearings together and keeps it in place.

Or... you could keep it all. A buddy of mine is putting the same chassis under his 46 Ford. Leaving the 4x4 in place and slamming and bagging it. This way he can drive it year round here in AK.

No.....dad's pretty set on keeping it 2wd. We'll have to see if the truck (S10) is worth it or not first

2wd s10s have coil spring and stamped a arms.. the frames are different.. if he can work with the 4x4 frame than do as above and run the stub shafts
