Well... I would choose the Tacoma especially if it was an extra cab just becaue its newer. The only extra cost involved would be the steering box. I did my swap for about $2500 (all work was done myself). But they both should ride about the same (should)

Also.. if you Tacoma has the 3.4 V6... you will be alot happier with the power over the 4 or 6 cyln that the older yotas have.

You want my rig dont you.
Well if you buy a tacoma or 4 runner my bro can do either swap for you (done 3 SAS tacomas and a few of the others). I'll even pick it up on a friday (live by walnut creek) and drive it back sun. all converted for you. you just need to provide all the parts.

Tacoma= plush interior, seats 5, powerful motor (can supercharge), not too common in SAS form.

4-runner= decent motor, interior, etc.. pretty common, wont be sooo upset when you .

all depends on what you want, and what you can afford?

Depends on what you want, Snowchucker and his brother did most of the work on my SAS Tacoma. it's still not done. (minor work to do) but if you want to come by and check it out it's in Livermore. Give me a call 925-858-5337.

2 short adults and 3 midget adults. Sitting in back can be tolerated for about 10 min (would be torture wheeling), and sitting bi*tch in center is also hell w/ some one's hand always feeling you up.

my bro did part of Steve's and is doing another this weekend. He charges about $1250?? for labor, front hanger, shock hoops, IFS box mounting, etc... you provide the axle, springs, ubolts, shocks, drivelines, IFS box, steering, etc...

For a daily, Taco. If it's not your daily, 4-Runner - the top comes off.

Why would you want to build up a rig, especially one with 35's or 38's to drive 250 miles on? Especially if it has to be ready in two weeks? Why would you want to attempt a daily driver/extreme build up if you can't fabricate or don't do any research on the topic? Aren't you at all concerned with how much money it'll cost, the gas mileage, tire wear, comfort factor, downtime, etc. etc.?? It just sounds like you're wasting bandwidth on something that's not gonna happen.
Have daddy buy you a used Tacoma that's reliable enough to get you to and from school in comfort, you can build it later.

daddy won't buy me a car. i plan on buying another and as for gas miliage i have never gotten above 10 on any of my cars. i currently drive a 71 fj40 with no top so don't talk aobut comfort. i can mig tig and stick but i only have a wire feed that will do 1/8 in. i am learning about fabrication of quarter ellptic. but i want a rig now not in 10 years. and i only have 2 weeks to make up my mind which to do not to have it done. i have money for either if i sell my cars/ trucks. so biatch

As far a reliability goes, the Taco would be the best bet. Parts won't be as worn down as in an old 4Runner. On the 4Runners side though, if you want a project truck, and money is an issue, go with the 4Runner. The Taco has the 3.4l V6, but the 3.0 V6 can be "modified". New throttle body, better headers, exhaust, etc... If money is not an issue, go with the Tacoma, and do all the mods you want. Aside from the aforementioned items, you may want to consider get things back and forth durring your 250 mile haul. Packing suit cases, and bags, and gear, unless you have a shell, everything is going to get weathered in the back of a p/u truck (tarps suck), where as in a 4Runner, everything stays cozy and dry.

I've owned an 84 Toy 4x4 (22r), and 88 Toy 4x4 V6, and 95 4Runner V6, and 97 Tacoma 3.4 V6. I've loved them all, but I really love my 4Runner. They rock when you want to take friends 4 wheeling that don't have 4x4's.

Anyhow, shop hard, and be sure to buy EXACTLY what you want, or you'll be kicking yourself in the a55 wishing you had.
