I am thinking about building a scout 800 to wheel. How is the frame strength compared to the scout II? I am planning a drivetrain swap from a travelall or a scout II.

I'm thinking just a springover to keep the cost down and cutting the fenders a lot to keep it low. maybe 36's or 38's, exocage/rollcage with a half cab top.

PBB is not the place for I'm thinkin' about...
Read the IH FAQ http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=373713

Then use search.

When that has all been exhausted and you still don't have what you are looking for...then ask the question.

The S80/800 has a fully boxed frame and is pretty strong for mid-'60s technology, your plan sounds good, now go find a Scout 80/800 and get started.

Read this too, it's a S800B with Scout II axles:http://www.justih.org/Binder-Bench/showthread.php?t=7630&page=1&pp=25

Nooooo...just bad welds. Reference to the old saying that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. :flipoff2:

I don't want this to turn in to a Joe Blow/Prolietor battle...now that's some fun readin' in the Ford section....

The 800 is a good choice. Grab a sII for the axles and power steering. The 800 springs arent that great cuz they are only 1.75" wide so might want to upgrade if you go with full width stuff.
The front axle will need to be cut and turned for proper alignment of driveshaft and caster. I would also swap out the outers to ford/cheby stuff for easy locating of replacement parts.
I have not heard of any welds breaking on the frame, but have seen guys re-weld the whole frame.
