I'm in the very early stages of considering swapping a Scout D44 into my daughter's 82 Toy. Has anybody completed this swap? The D44 is 60.75" wide. I haven't measured the Toy axle yet. Any know the width of the Toy off the top of your head?

Would I be better off to use a Waggy front 44 due to the 6 lug pattern?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The Toy axle is about 55" wide.

I think a Waggy or Chev D44 is a better swap. Scout axle shafts are getting hard to find, a guy in my club runs one in his Jeep, and he has to buy complete Scouts just to get axle shafts. <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

Skip the Scout front 44 - it uses some oddball parts, and cutting and turning the knuckles is MANDITORY for use in a Toyota truck.

Ok then, am I better off with the Waggy or Chevy. Will the nuckles need to be rotated on these?

BTW - one reason people use the Chevy is due to the cast in place spring perch issues. You can cut down a Chevy housing and keep the stock spring mounts already on the Toy.

Lets not also forget the crappy outer knuckle for anykind of highsteer.
Used a scout housing once, never again.
