i made my own shackles out of 3/8 steel and im bout to drill at the holes. i was just wondering if it is necessary to cross-brace them? ive seen guys run shackles without cross bracing and guys run them with bracing. the bracing looks stronger, but is it necessary? any advantages of not bracing them?

How tall are your shackles and what are you doing with the truck?

Braced shackles will not flex as hard because they are less likely to twist, but if you are blasting across the desert you don't want them to flex.

A bud-of-mines jeep gains 150 RTI points by simply losening his shackle bolts a bit.

I would say that as long as the bracing won't bind aginst the frame when you flex and the shackle is over 7 inches bolt-to-bolt you will want to put in a brace.

i dont have a problem with it binding up yet. i havent taken it wheeling but have screwed around in my area tryin to find something big to drive on but havent found anything yet. i call it urban wheeling
