Does anyone know of any companies who manufacture hardened /upgraded outer CVS for the rear of a shogun /Pajero 99-06?

From what I've seen the oem are really strong but curios to know what you are working on to bees stronger. I have two NP's

and iirc the NM and NP have different CV shafts. Not 100% certain though.

I have found them to be quite strong to be fair. I'm use them in a custom axle case to make the rear IRS into a live axle with drop (6") to achieve the same as a portal axle. It's a similar setup to 'atomic' axles - except you don't need to trade limbs or other vital organs. Been running 40" tyres for 5 years now with only a handful of breakages (not all due to the CV).

When you say 'NM' and 'NP', what are you referring to? I've found 2 different sized CV/shafts so far, both are the same length. One is approx 10mm bigger than the other. Strangely, I've had less issues with the small ones than the big ones. Dunno if they were manufactured different or by different companies? There doesn't seem to be much correlation in what shaft and what truck model they come from.

There are a handful of guys trying to get RCV to make a set for the Pajero, they would be indestructible in our diffs. Alternatively you can dissassemble them and semd the parts to cryo heat for treatment and micropolishing which will also make them hella strong. I mean 125mm CVs are pretty awesome for a stock truck.

Is that right? Where abouts in the world are they? RCV have said they could do it, but for an order of 20 CV's you'd be looking at £450 per CV. The more we could order in one go the cheaper it would be.

Have you any further info on heat treating the cages? That's not something I'd considered...

But yes, for a stock truck, they are mighty strong! :flipoff2:
