I just had to do it. Stopped in a couple of weeks ago and told them i was doing a sas and if i could borrow there ramp when i got it done. Went back on friday and talked to another guy. He came out and looked at it before we took it to the ramp. He said he had seen two others, but this was by far the cleanest he had seen! Then he asked me what i did for a living, he thought i was a welder or fabricater or something. He could'nt believe it when i told him i am in college and never done any work like this before. Told him that i had a buddy do the welding, i knew where everything went, and we just did it. Drove it over to flex it and a couple more techs came out to look at it. They've never done one there in the shop. They were inpreessed with the flex too. Pics are in the way, promise.

And then you get the respect too. That is what I like. I will go into the shops, and ask questions about something, they ask me what I am doing and I tell them. They look at me like I am a dreamer, and really don't want to talk to me. I guess they get a lot of dreamers asking questions. Anyway, then you go back to the shop after you are done, and wow, instant respect. Then they are the ones asking questions. Except one local shop here. I brought my runner in to show my D44 because a guy at the shop wanted to do a D44 on his truck.(bad ass truck, but a show truck by the way, 92 with A SAS, lots of chrome). Anyway, the guy wouldn't even talk to me. Guess he didn't like being showed up. Real dicks I tell ya. I won't be going back to that shop.

I want a chance to guess!! Ultimate High????? Was it the purple truck? I saw your 'Runner just last week in Provo, but you were going the other way. That thing is badass, even though I couldn't tell what the drivetrain was, I am much more impressed now that I know!! I was on your site and saw your bros project double-bobbed ext. cab swap! How is that coming, or is it done? I was thinking of doing the same thing on my 85. I was wondering if you had any recent pics?

When I did my crossover high steer I needed
a weld on stabilizer kit (didn't have time
to make) went to every shop in the area, they
had no Idea what I was talking about. Thank
god for the internet. If you want a lifted
show truck and crome parts your business is
welcomed...

yea--no kidding! Shops around here jeeps with 3-inch body lifts or 3-4 inch susp lifts all the time. Seems like 1 out of 3 high school kids has got one. they load them up w/ off-road stickers--even if they're stock. Then they think they can wheel. 33" ATs at the most (maybe even michelins), open diffs, w 3.07 or 3.55 gears or somthing like that. I pulled them out all the time w/ stock ifs. "Dude, how come your Toyota can go through all of this stuff and my lifted jeep gets stuck?" Well--1) Toyota! 2)Locker 3)Tires 4) Driving ability 5)Knowing the limit of your rig
"Oh. So pretty much, my jeep sucks and the only reason i got it was to try to be cool? Now i realize how I am!"

I won't deal with any of the local 'big' shops. Seems if you don't have a Chevy, Ford, or Jeep they just don't give a crap. The only time I did business with one of them they Fawked up everything I ordered!

I hear ya, When I was first considering the SAS, I asked around a bunch. I was great! especialy 4Wparts, those b!tches were all over the "sell that under-powered, POS toyota and geat a real rig"....Jeep of corse. So I never steped back in till it was finished, looking for tire prices. They still wouldn't talk to me. It was great! I went to another BIG shop(MuddyTires), new to the area, and they want me to put it in on the floor for a show truck...as soon as they pick up some more toy venders... They've been really cool trying to get what I need, going realy out of there way, even if just for prices.

So some shops are cool and some aren't...

neither of my trucks have ever seens the inside of an "offroad shop". They all think they are way smarter than us, yet all they do is bolt on lift kits

How you guess? yup, ultimate high, guy with the purple truck. Too bad he isn't part of this list, he just might learn a thing or too. He was cool to me, that was until he saw my truck. Duh, it is not like I am trying to show him up or somthing, just sharing ideas. That is what it is all about. My truck wouldn't be the way it is if people didn't share.

Sky, haven't got my rig much up in SLC yet, pretty much play down in utah county. Saturday was the first time in almost a year.

I love Six states though, those guys rock. They made sure I had correct info even if they don't make any money off me, they know I am not a dreamer, and I will be back later for drivelines.

"The General", Thanks! You live in provo area. I am up behind Timpview HS. My brothers truck has the cab on it, but he hasn't got the money toghether to finish it up. He needs to rebuild his motor(7MGE), and either build a flat bed, or find a bed somwhere real cheap that he can bob. So right now it just sits.

I love rolling up to the "shops" and their customers are gawking at my rig that they didn't touch....you can just see them boiling.....I LOVE IT Wait till "Project 4 Runner" is complete....

Not to many SAS-Shinny-Chrome Toyotas around, so it was a easy guess. Those guys know how to make the money, make the rig shine, but don't ever take it offroad!! That would be sacreligious to the Ultimate High guys . He probably was a jerk to you 'cause he could tell that you actually USE your rig, and there's know way he would dare take his where you go.
Anyways, I live in Highland. I lived in Orem for a long time. When I saw you I was with my friend in his red '48 Willys on University Ave, I think.
Thats to bad about your bros truck, I wanted to see this thing running around! I think I am going to have to take a closer look at your 7MGE swap sometime. Sounds killer!
